Day 46 of #yogasutrachallenge: YS 1.46 Ta eva sa bijah samadhih: These are states of Samadhi “with seed” Patanjali has so far gone through six of the seven steps on the path to enlightenment. These steps, he says, are all “with seed”, which is to say, they all involve focusing on something as an aid to contemplation (not actual seeds). But any object perceived in the mind leaves a samskara, an imprint on the mind. The goal is to free the mind of samskaras, so while focussing on one is clearly better than churning through lots of thoughts and helps us get pretty far along the road, it’s not going to get us over the finish line. In fact, like reaching the highest rung of a ladder before getting to the summit, those final stages are the most dangerous, and a fall from those heights will be harder. Imagine getting to that place where you can merge your mind with any object, understanding it innately. That’s pretty powerful, and it could be easy from there to go back into daily life thinking how amazing you are, profiting from such an ability, letting those dizzying heights go to your head. Don't get me wrong, it could be great, but it’s not exactly staying on the path to enlightenment.
